If the Army is concerned about being seen as casting away and discarding soldiers then perhaps SGT Boyle’s conviction should be overturned. More than one young American has refused to consider the military citing SGT Boyle’s case, “if it could happen to him it could happened to anyone”.
In an article written by David Wood entitled: Thousands of Soldiers Unfit for War Duty, Brig. Gen. Gary Cheek, who heads the Army’s Warrior Transition Command reminded David Wood that:The Army is a volunteer organization dependent on the willingness of young Americans to commit themselves to the military.
“And if we are seen as casting away or discarding the young Americans who volunteer to serve,” he said, “it won’t be long before we don’t have enough volunteers.”
